Stratton talks about growing up on a farm near Quimby, Iowa; contracting polio as a young teenager; receiving treatment from doctors in Sioux City; rehabilitating at home with his parents' help; being ineligible for military service as a result of polio; and becoming a truck driver after the family left the farm.

The State Library of Iowa hired Kate Scott to coordinate an oral history project to document the history and impact of polio in Iowa.
